What Skills Does A Copywriter Need?
For those who want to be an in-house agency copywriter, that will require a Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Digital Marketing, or other related fields of study.
Regarding freelance copywriting jobs, the door is open to more possibilities without the requirement of a formal degree. Many freelance copywriters learn the skills on their own and by shadowing experienced copywriters. Most of the skills you need to begin as a copywriter can be found in copywriting courses or certification programs online.
Primary copywriting skills
- Writing (this is a given)
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
- Understanding of email marketing, sales funnels, and the customer journey
- Use of colors, fonts, and other formatting techniques to convert readers to paying clients.
- Research and analysis skills
- Spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and paragraph structure
- Writing engaging headlines
